Santo Amaro da Barra Grande Fortress is a place where communitarian activities are developed by NECOM - Núcleo de Extensão Comunitária da Universidade Católica (the Communitarian Extension Nucleus of the Catholic University of Santos). NECOM carries out projects in several communities in the Santista Region with the aim of integrating extension activities and social research to university practices. One
of NECOM's projects is directed towards fulfilling the growing demand
for visitation of the Fortress, especially student groups.
